Fight Cancer With The Help Of A Regular Massage
The Benefits of Massage Therapy in Cancer Treatment
A new approach to symptom management in cancer is massage therapy. Those diagnosed with mesothelioma can experience significant relief from the side effects of treatment from a specially trained oncology massage therapist. The type of massage used depends on the unique needs of the patient.
Before massage could be taken seriously as a therapeutic technique, the myths surrounding it had to be debunked. It was once thought that massage could cause cancer to grow larger or spread further throughout a patient’s body. Research conducted at the University of Miami School of Medicine determined that regular massage therapy increases the body’s number of natural killer cells that attack the cancer.
The primary focus of massage in a disease situation is to restore the body to optimum health. This is why oncology massage therapy must be carefully tailored to the individual. Each patient is on a personal path to recovery and will vary in the amount of pain, side effects and progress that is made. As an example, a patient who just had a surgical procedure would not want pressure on or near the area where it took place.
Massage can help patients cope with the many drastic changes in lifestyle cancer can bring. Emotional health can suffer as the patient experiences lengthy hospital stays along with physically taxing treatments. A form of massage called reflexology uses pressure points on the feet to relieve pain and anxiety. Swedish massage improves blood circulation to the muscles, which can bring up energy levels and help the patient get through the day after cancer treatment. Another approach is the Japanese technique in which the therapist uses elbows, knees, hands and feet to improve a patient’s energy flow.
The main benefits of massage therapy are lessening of pain and a stronger immune system. Other issues that massage may resolve include fatigue, insomnia, nausea, anorexia and diarrhea, as well as many other side effects that occur with radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Massage can also alleviate depression; mood swings and manages the anger that often accompanies cancer.
Any cancer patient who is considering massage therapy should first check with a doctor to ensure that it is safe to do so. Most patients should find benefit in it and while it is not a cure, it can make the journey through cancer more bearable. So, what are you waiting for? Get that serenity back into your life and treat your body to a spiritual and mental vacation.

Anti-Ageing Treatments That Work
Microdermabrasion Dublin
Microdermabrassion has become one of the most successful anti-ageing treatments currently available on the market and is continuously gaining even more excited followers. The reason for its popularity is in the procedure itself, which is a non-invasive, effective and affordable in comparison to its surgical substitutes. The purpose of this treatment is to remove or diminish skin imperfections, leaving the skin smoother and younger looking.
Microdermabrasion is especially effective on problems such as pores, acne, lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, sun damage, patchy dryness, stretch marks and scars. It is mostly suitable for around the eye area and more specifically crow’s
feet. Generally, microdermabrasion is used for the treatment of face imperfections but is also successfully applied to areas such as chest, neck, arms and hands
Microdermabrasion is recommendable for people who are sensitive to chemical peels and the anti-acne drugs Retin-A. While microdermabrasion suits most skin types there are few contraindications where the treatment would not be advisable e.g active rosacea, active oral herpes, fragile capillaries, eczema, psoriasis, lupus, dermatitis.
Microdermabrasion, in practice is performed either by using medical grade crystals or diamond particles but both methods provide similar results. The procedure is provided by a highly skilled specialist and a course of 4 – 6 procedures is usually recommended, depending on problems being treated.
The idea is that when the top layer of the skin (stratum corneum) is removed the
body reacts to this intervention by replacing the lost skin layer with the production of new, healthy skin cells. The newly produced skin is much smoother, healthier and younger looking than the skin that has been removed. Most common imperfections such as sun damage, pigmentation, dry patches and blemishes are addressed by the treatment. Another added benefit of having microdermabrasion is that skin care products, when applied after treatment, would be penetrated into the deeper layers of the skin in the absence of the barrier that stratum corneum presents and therefore their active ingredients
would be much more effective . Studies suggest that having microdermabrasion on regular intervals can influence the whole skin renewal process not only within the surface layers of the skin but also on the deeper level of cell regeneration.
Side effects from microdermabrasion may include swelling and redness but are only temporary. The skin will also be more sensitive to sun exposure and that’s why the use of minimum SPF 20 is highly recommended.
Zenergy Health and
Beauty Clinic is offering Microdermabrasion in Dublin since 2010. We employ three highly qualified specialists whose passion lies in cosmetology and skin care. We work with Eco-Peel Microdermabrasion Machine using medical grade crystals which are sprayed onto the skin to loosen and remove dead skin cells (mild sandblasting) while simultaneous vacuum suction collects the used crystal particles along with the dead skin. Full consultation and after care are provided in salon. For more information on latest prices and special offers or to book a consultation ring 01 6111100 ; e-mail to info@zenergy.ie or visit www.zenergy.ie

The Silent Healer
Aloe Vera
Known for centuries for its healing properties, Aloe Vera has become one of the most talked about herbal remedies in recent years. Along with the widely known qualities of healing wounds, ulcers, burns and acne, the plant has been recommended by the National Cancer Institute for extensive research and testing due to its potential cancer fighting properties.
Belonging to the lily family and related to the onion, garlic and asparagus, aloe vera, being a cactus plant, is made of 99 % water and 1 % solid material. The most incredible part is that this 1 % solid material contains 75 different ingredients including vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, proteins, sugars, antibiotic agents… etc.
The centre of the plant’s leaves is filled with clear gel which doesn’t need much processing in order to be used. On another hand the leaves themselves would normally undergo processing to desired form where they can be used in products. However, the active ingredients are contained in both, gel and leaves. It is believed that the healing effects of Aloe Vera are not resulting from one particular component but rather the synergy of all ingredients, acting together.
The primary beneficiaries of the Aloe Vera action are the Epithelial Tissues and the Immune System.
The plant’s anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial effects speed up the healing process of damaged epithelial tissue in burns and leg ulcers. Scientists believe that the real promise of Aloe Vera as anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial is in the fight of AIDS, HIV and Cancer where the plants quality to prevent opportunistic infections, to activate white blood cells and to grow non-cancerous cells is considered unique.
Aloe Vera is distributed in Ireland by Forever Living, the world’s leader in the growing, processing and distri buting of aloe vera products. The range is available in Zenergy Beauty Salon Dublin (tel: 01-4433013) and includes health, nutrition, skin care and weight management.
Our top seller is Aloe Vera Gel Drink which helps maintaining healthy digestive system and high energy level. Another popular product, often recommended by our expert physiotherapists is Forever Freedom Drink which combines aloe vera with substances that are helpful for the maintenance of proper joint function and mobility. While the benefits of taking Aloe Vera are its strongest selling point, there are few contraindications which customers need to consider prior usage and more specifically: pregnancy, breast feeding and heart conditions.

Latest ”must have” Ingredient in the Race to Defy Age
Hyaluronic Acid
The Skin Care Industry is pulling out all the stops in the race to come up with the next “miracle” ingredient that will open the door to never aging (ever lasting) beauty. And it seems that Hyaluronic Acid is promising exactly that!!
As huge fans of this new gem here at Zenergy we’ve decided to spread the word and hopefully to let you know that little bit more about what you might be missing.
Until not long ago, collagen and elastine were thought to be the main ingredients for the universally desired ‘young looking’ skin. Today, however, researchers are increasingly emphasizing the importance hyaluronic acid plays in the maintenance of the natural processes within the skin that counteract the effects of aging. While the word ‘acid’ may not sound appealing the presence of hyaluronic in the epithelial tissue is considered vital to beautiful looking skin due to its role in retaining water. This not only stimulates the generation of new collagen but it is also fundamental to the structural integrity of the connective tissue. The extracellular matrix (connective tissue) fills up the space between the skin cells and is composed of hyaluronic acid combined with collagen and elastine. Large amounts of water, held by the hyaluronic acid, stimulate the generation of collagen and provide the necessary humidity for the elastine. As elastine has a tendency to become dry and brittle, the need for lubricant is provided by the acid through its ability to attract and hold on to moisture within the skin.
With age, the levels of hyaluronic acid in the human body rapidly decrease leading to the drying out of the elastine and the fragmentation of collagen fibers resulting in the weakening of the connective tissue. These changes signal that an aging process is occurring and usually show up as an uneven skin surface as well as increasingly dry and wrinkled skin. In contrast, the higher the levels of hyaluronic acid in the connective tissue, the softer, smoother, plumper and elastic the skin is.
It is therefore easy to see why hyaluronic acid is considered a very effective, natural hydratant that works from within the skin and why it has been labeled “the fountain of youth”. Its beneficial properties have been successfully applied not only in the latest generation of anti-aging skin care but also in cosmetic surgery as fillers, mostly known as Restyline, as well as for the treatment of various joint disorders.
Here at Zenergy we are very excited at the opportunity to be working with Hyaluronic Acid which is used in our Image Anti-Age Peels. We see for ourselves on a daily basis the results it delivers on our regular clientele. We are delighted to say that our Image Peels have been one of the key reasons for many happy returning customers and they have become one of our best selling and most effective treatments.
Zenergy is also proud that we have managed to keep our prices affordable, during very difficult times, so we can share all these wonderful experiences with you. Image Anti-Aging Peel at Zenergy costs 49 euro per facial when you buy a course of six and 60 euro per single treatment. This is in comparison to 89 euro standard price at other salons.
So call us today on 01-4433013 and book yourself an appointment. You will look and feel great afterwards!!
The Benefits of Massage that you may not know…
What does having a massage mean to you? Relaxation? Stress Relief? Back pain relief? These are probably the first things that come to mind. Although these are all important benefits of massage, we would like to share with you the many alternative benefits that may not come to mind as quickly.
The physical benefits of massage are perhaps the most commonly understood, particularly among medical staff, fitness trainers and active athletes (see our blog below on the benefits of sports massage). Previous studies in these fields have shown how massage can improve both your muscular system and your skeletal system, but you don’t have to be a sport fanatic or an exercise maniac to understand that massage can provide you with improved joint flexibility, relief from muscle tension, stiffness and pain from injury. People of all strengths, builds and ages suffer from joint stiffness or muscle aches, and regular massage can help this. Many of our customer testimonials will say the same… http://www.zenergy.ie/zenergy-testimonials-dublin
You will be glad to know that massage boasts numerous health benefits too. There has been tons of research studies carried out by health organizations on the effects of massage therapy on specific health problems. Regular massage has been linked with boosting your immune system which will help you to fight off that common cold. If you suffer from asthma, a recent study showed that massage may improve respiratory flow in asthma patients. Massage can also be particularly helpful for people living with more serious illnesses, like cancer, as it can relieve fatigue, pain, anxiety, and depression in these patients. Massage also relieves symptoms of PMS such as bloating and mood swings, women in particular will be glad to know (and everyone else who has to deal with those mood swings!). If you suffer from tension headaches or migraines, as many of you stressed individuals out there do, we highly recommend having an Indian Head Massage to relieve this pressure on your head, neck, and shoulders. A 30 minute Indian Head Massage costs just €30 at Zenergy.
For all of you who have ever dozed off on one of our massage tables, you will find this proves that massage also promotes sounder sleep! Whether it’s emotional stress, physical pain or just plain fatigue, these can all interfere with your sleep. Massage helps to reduce stress, release tension, improve circulation, improve your digestive system, and in turn its relaxing effects will help you get a better night’s rest.
Another great benefit is the improvement of your skin after a massage. The rhythm and motion of massage increases blood flow in the body which plumps up your skin, improves your skin tone, and reduces cellulite and wrinkles. We offer Anti-cellulite/ Lymphatic massage here at Zenergy for just €45 that will get rid of toxins in your body and promote more youthful skin.
Some types of massage, such as holistic massage or Reiki, focus on releasing emotional issues and calming the emotions through the element of touch. This emotional healing leads to a positive state of mind and spiritual awareness that may reduce your level of anxiety and ease feelings of depression. Many of our massage therapists here at Zenergy practice this holistic approach and strongly believe in the ability of massage to promote a client’s emotional and mental wellbeing.
If you would like to experience these fantastic benefits of massage or improve these areas of your health, we have a wide range of massages available here at Zenergy, including Swedish, Thai, Deep Tissue, Aromatherapy, Holistic, Indian Head, Hot Stone massage, Pregnancy massage and Reiki. All of our massages are extremely affordable at just €45 for one hour treatment (exception is Hot Stone Massage which is €55 per hour). To really feel the full benefits of massage, it is best to have regular massage sessions at least once a month. We offer a course of 5 massages for €200, that’s only €40 each or looked at another way the fifth one for €20! So why not try one of the above and see what massage can do for you…

The Benefits of Regular Sports Massage
Why Sports Massage?
Any athlete that has suffered an injury in the course of their sport will tell you that prevention is always better than cure. Whether we take part in intense sports training, work out in a gym, attend a fitness class or a dance class, we are always told to warm up and do our stretches before and after any exercise session in order to prevent injury. We at Zenergy always give this same advice to our clients. Prevention IS better than cure.
A constant build up of tension in the muscles from regular physical activity may lead to stresses on joints, ligaments, tendons as well as the muscles themselves. During hard training or performance there can be an accumulation of waste material resulting in a slight swelling in the muscles. In addition the tissues can become nutritionally depleted and may be in need of repair.
At our sports clinic here at Zenergy we are firm believers that regular sports massage can help you achieve maximum performance, decrease your chance of injury, and aid a quicker recovery. Regular sports massage can help enhance your training as it provides greater flexibility of the muscles and eases muscle tension or strains. So if you have a big event coming up or you are simply trying to get in better shape, we recommend booking in for a sports massage on a regular basis to ensure you reach your optimal performance.
There are tons of benefits associated with regular sports massage, almost too many to mention; draining away fatigue, relieve swelling, release muscle tension, promote flexibility, decreased chance of injury, decreased recovery time between workouts, increased elimination of lactic acid, increased sense of well being, and stimulating blood flow, to name a few!
What exactly is involved in Sports Massage?
Sports massage is a type of Swedish Massage that stimulates the circulation of blood and lymph fluids. It involves a systematic manipulation of the soft tissues of the body with the emphasis on the prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons. Generally, our massage therapists will concentrate on a specific problem area or will focus on the muscles relevant to a particular sport rather than performing a full body massage. Some sports massage movements use trigger point therapy to break down knots in the muscles and increase range of motion. Don’t worry if this sounds painful to you because our therapists will always work to whatever pressure level you are comfortable with.
What is the difference between Sports Massage and Physiotherapy?
We put this question to one of our experienced physiotherapists here at Zenergy, Maria, and here is what she said…
Both physiotherapy and sports massage are actually very similar but the difference really depends on the nature of the client’s problem. Maria explained that physiotherapy is generally used to heal a specific injury that a client has, while sports massage can be used and is extremely beneficial even if the client does not have an injury. Sports massage can also concentrate on a particular pressure point if the client has a certain problem area. Maria is highly experienced in both physiotherapy and sports massage and will work on any injury or problem you may have. She will also be delighted to explain in detail all the different treatments open to a client.
A one hour sports massage at Zenergy with Maria costs only €45, with every fifth treatment only €20, so there is little reason why you can’t maintain regular sports massages. We are open 7 days a week till late so if you are on a tight schedule you can book your appointment for an hour during the evening, or on a Saturday with our other advanced physiotherapist, Javier. We will also recommend a home-based stretching routine for you to continue with at home in between your sessions. Call us today on 01-4433013 to book your appointment, or if you have any questions we will be happy to answer them. What are you waiting for!

Shellac nails for Christmas and the New Year!
We are really getting into the Christmas spirit here at Zenergy! We have trimmed the tree, wrapped our gifts, hung up our festive decorations, and most importantly we have the box of chocolates ready and waiting for you! We can’t believe the party season is now upon us and to join the festivities we think it’s time you treat yourself to something that will make you feel and look great for Christmas. It’s time to introduce Shellac Nails!
I’m sure many of you have heard of the wonders of Shellac Nails, but for those of you who haven’t, Shellac is the revolutionary new way of making your nails look fantastic!
Gel is painted on like a nail polish but looks as good as acrylic nails and our clients tell us it lasts for up to three weeks. It doesn’t smudge or chip and doesn’t lose it’s shine like traditional nail polish. The application process is simple- first, a base coat is applied followed by two layers of colour and completed with a top coat. After each coat is applied your hand is placed under a special UV lamp while your other hand is being painted. Once it is finished, there is no dry time required so you don’t need to worry about smudging your nails when putting on your woolly gloves!
We offer Shellac in tons of different colours so you can choose a bright funky colour to match your party dress or you can simply choose to have a more neutral shade for when you are relaxing at home by the fire.
So for a long-lasting manicure that will last you throughout the whole Christmas season from now until the New Year, drop into us and try out Shellac Nails for only €30. You can also add a french polish to your Shellac for just an extra €5. In comparison to other nails on the market such as gel and acrylic, removal of Shellac doesn’t harm your natural nails. And even better, removal of Shellac is free at Zenergy if you are getting a repeat application. What more could a girl want for Christmas!
