Anti-Ageing Treatments That Work

  Microdermabrasion  Dublin

Microdermabrassion has become one of the most successful anti-ageing treatments currently available on the market and is continuously gaining even more excited followers. The reason for its popularity is in the procedure itself, which is a non-invasive, effective and affordable in comparison to its surgical substitutes. The purpose of this treatment is to remove or diminish skin imperfections, leaving the skin smoother and younger looking.

Microdermabrasion is especially effective on problems such as pores, acne, lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, sun damage, patchy dryness, stretch marks and scars. It is mostly suitable for around the eye area and more specifically crow’s feet. Generally, microdermabrasion is used for the treatment of face imperfections but is also successfully applied to areas such as chest, neck, arms and hands

Microdermabrasion is recommendable for people who are sensitive to chemical peels and the anti-acne drugs Retin-A. While microdermabrasion suits most skin types there are few contraindications where   the treatment would not be advisable e.g active rosacea, active oral herpes, fragile capillaries, eczema, psoriasis, lupus, dermatitis.

Microdermabrasion, in practice is performed either by using medical grade crystals or diamond particles but both methods provide similar results. The procedure is provided by a highly skilled specialist and a course of 4 – 6 procedures is usually recommended, depending on problems being treated.

The idea is that when the top layer of the skin (stratum corneum) is removed the body reacts to this intervention by replacing the lost skin layer with the  production of new, healthy skin cells. The newly produced skin is much smoother, healthier and younger looking than the skin that has been removed. Most common imperfections such as sun damage, pigmentation, dry patches and blemishes are addressed by the treatment. Another added benefit of having microdermabrasion is that skin care products, when applied after treatment, would be penetrated into  the deeper layers of the skin in the absence of the barrier that  stratum corneum  presents and therefore their active ingredients would be much more effective . Studies suggest that having microdermabrasion on regular intervals can influence the whole skin renewal process not only within the surface layers of the skin but also on the deeper level of cell regeneration.

Side effects from microdermabrasion may include swelling and redness but are only temporary. The skin will also be more sensitive to sun exposure and that’s why the use of minimum SPF 20 is highly recommended.
